about

The Movement is here. Officially.

So, y’all might already know Notion. And y’all probably already know Cee & Bekah. And you may even be familiar with Tommy Gunnz. And it’s possible you’ve heard of Atlanta’s DJ Grain. But it’s definite that you know The Movement Fam – well, now anyway.

The Movement Fam is an independent Hip Hop/Soul collective, based in both Melbourne, Australia and Atlanta, Georgia. A truly international crew, The Fam are officially in the building. Fresh off their North American/NZ radio tour in September/October 2008, Notion and Cee & Bekah are back home in Melbourne with a gang of new connections and a worldwide mindstate, something most of their contemporaries in their homeland are lacking.

To celebrate the official launch of The Movement Fam crew, Cee & Bekah and Notion have gone and done a double release of their latest mixtapes – The Soul Movement Volume 2 and World Domi-NoTiOn. And after showcasing it on mainstream and college radio in the USA, Canada and New Zealand, running it by label reps, promoters, DJ’s, artists, producers and business cats all over the world, it’s pretty damn clear that what The Fam is doing is something special. Loud.com even asked the crew to do a regular blog detailing the struggles of Australian artists trying to break into the North American market. That’s what’s up.

The Soul Movement Volume 2 is part two of three in The Soul Movement mixtape series from Soul Hop pioneers Cee & Bekah; and it’s exactly what you’d hoped it’d be. Armed with a more mature outlook on life and the experience of performing around the country, the duo have given y’all 23 songs for the club, for the whip, for the lovers, for the politically conscious, and just for fans of good music. Australia’s only platinum DJ, DJ Nino Brown, even came through to bless the mixtape with his chart topping skills – he saw the potential in the crew and respecognised The Movement.

The international aspect is still as present as ever, with guest appearances from Canada’s Jessica Kaya (Eternia’s younger sister), the UK’s Motley, Colombia’s Arte Y Lenguaje and Austria’s Day Diz, while Toronto’s KrisblaiR came through and laced another banger. Other production comes courtesy of Styalz Fuego (Chamillionaire, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Sneaky Sound System), Whisper (Amiel, Equills), Revelino (Rudy, Camielle, Soul District, Cristian Alexanda) and newcomer Infinite Archetype, and of course, the soul is so evident. Single ‘Anything For You’ (produced by Whisper) will be hitting airwaves around the planet very shortly.

With all artwork designed by the UK’s KidEight, and production and feature artists coming from all over Australia and the world, it’s clear that The Movement Fam have an international state of mind. Miami, Florida’s Kevin Nottingham (from www.kevinnottingham.com) has even put together a remix competition for both The Soul Movement Volume 2 and World Domi-NoTiOn, and the resulting remix mixtape will be released online in early 2009.

Like we said, The Movement is here. Listen up.
